L. was seven years old when I started tinkering with portrait photography. She’s patiently been my test subject hundreds of times. I’m actually surprised that she enjoys having her picture taken anymore, but she does. Maybe because it means she gets a new outfit or two! At one point yesterday I remember standing in a wheat field, next to a beautiful patch of sunflowers, obviously trespassing on someone’s farm, and saying to her, “Okay, now do something.” She said, “Like what?” I ~~yelled~~ replied, “I don’t know, you’ve done this before a million times, you know what to do!” Then, she did her thing and we took some photos. There were bugs, and itchy wheat, and holes that I’m sure animals were lurking in, and ditches she had to hop over in her wedge heels. For the first time ever, she didn’t complain at all. For that, she deserves her own post. She also deserves her own post because she’s mine and she’s 15. She’s a beautiful, amazing, lovely, smart, 15.

I met B. and A. when I photographed their wedding in 2009. What a surprise it was to run into them a few months ago and find out they were expecting! One of my favorite things about being a photographer, is documenting a family from the very beginning, and as it grows. It is always a special time when I have the opportunity to photograph the newborn baby of a couple whose wedding I photographed. Lucky for me, B. and A. decided they wanted me to capture those first days with their baby girl. Baby E. is absolutely beautiful, and was extremely cooperative throughout her session. I couldn’t have asked for anything better! Congratulations B. and A.!

We had been trying to make this session happen for a couple of years now, so I was excited to finally be able to photograph the M. family! I met them at my school a few years ago, and was sad to see them move on to a new school this year. Luckily, we’ve still been able to to keep in touch and had the opportunity to do this fun session. What It Is Really About

The L. family is one of my favorite families! A few weeks ago, C. contacted me to let me know that they are moving to Atlanta, and that they wanted me to come over and take some photos while they are still in their Arizona home. Although I was thrilled to spend time with them again, and to meet little T., the newest member of the family, I am a little sad that they are moving. I hope that I will have the opportunity to see them again, either here or in their new home in Atlanta. While I was getting this preview ready, I started thinking and I realized that taking pictures isn’t what this is really about. What it is really about is family, love, and life. I cherish that. I think I have mentioned it before, but I can look at any photo I have taken, and recall the details of that moment as if I were living it again, even photos that are not of my own family. Because of this, every family, every bride and groom, and every newborn baby add a little piece to who I am.

To the L. family, it has been my pleasure to have a peek into your family, your love, and your life. I wish you all the best on your new adventure!

Welcome to the World Baby C.!

Baby C.’s arrival was scheduled and his first photos planned. Then, I got sick. And I had to postpone. This was something that had never happened to me before, and I was so disappointed. Luckily, H. and T. were willing to wait another week for me to come over and take baby C.’s first photos. I’m not so secretly glad they waited! Welcome to the world baby C.! We are so glad you are here!

I love it when my friends have babies! I only met H. a year ago but we became fast friends. She helped me keep a clear head when I was working through some situations in which my rational self became completely irrational. I helped her see some situations with a fresh perspective. It was only a few months after we met when she told everyone the good news! H. was having a baby! I knew without a doubt that there would be pictures. Finally, on a HOT August afternoon, H. and I got together to do some photos. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to capture this special time in her life and I can’t wait for the day that she officially becomes a Mommy!

T. & D. ~ Kansas Wedding

I finished up my Spring Break by traveling to Olathe, Kansas to photograph the wedding of T. and D.! Although the weather was less than cooperative, it was a magical day and an honor to see this long awaited wedding take place.

A couple from the amazing location we used after the ceremony. It was one of the craziest post-ceremony shoots I have ever done due to the gusty wind and 45 degree temperatures. Luckily, there was a break in the rain that allowed us to travel in style on the “Cool Bus” to an abandoned barn (more of the “haunted” barn coming soon). Everyone stayed in good spirits despite the cold and being asked to “pretend like it isn’t cold!”
